Collinsville Public Schools is working to be as transparent as possible each time a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Lance West says because of the pandemic, positive cases are hard to avoid but not something to hide. Collinsville currently has more than 20 students in quarantine and each announcement is posted on the district's website. West says the parents of students are also directly contacted so they can follow the proper steps to quarantine if necessary.
Contact tracers at the school are aided by seating charts and the students asked to quarantine take part in distanced learning. West says this kind of transparency is important for everyone in town.
"Our community is a very tight nit group, they're great. They're very supportive. Our parents and our community members have been excellent and we're just trying to keep that open line and it doesn't make sense not to," said West.
Union and Bartlesville are districts that have taken similar steps offering spreadsheets of data on their websites.
