Cyclist Hospitalized After Hit And Run

A Tulsa man is in the hospital in critical condition after a hit and run near 31st and Joplin late Monday evening.

Tulsa police said a man was riding a bike down Joplin when a driver hit him and then fled the scene.

TPD said just before 11 p.m. Monday night they received a call about a shooting near 31st and Joplin. When officers arrived, they found out the victim had actually been hit by a car, not shot.

According to officials the victim has severe injuries to his head and has been transported to the hospital in critical condition.  

They said the suspect had driven away from the scene to park his car at home but later returned to the scene on foot.

TPD captain Malcolm Whiteman said they are still investigating all factors.

“There is a possibility there are intoxicants involved in this case under Oklahoma law anytime we have an injury accident we are required to do blood draws to determine if intoxicants are a factor,” said Whiteman.

Officials said the suspect has been booked for leaving the scene of an injury collision.
