A new study shows the importance of parents getting their kids the flu shot each year.

Researchers with Children's Hospital Pittsburg looked at records from 2018 to the 2019 flu season and found that anywhere between 40% and 50% of flu cases could have been prevented with a vaccine.

Shelle Allen is a mother who chose not to get her child a vaccine when she was a child. Her daughter is now 22 years old and is left with significant lung disease.

"She is prone to pneumonia," Allen said. "So every time she gets pneumonia that just builds more scar tissue into her lungs."

Allen urges all parents to take the advice of their doctors and get the flu shot for both themselves and their kids.
