Tulsa Police arrested a man they said brutally beat a woman, raped her, then left her in a Tulsa park.
Police said a patrol officer found the woman stumbling, bleeding and looking for help. Special Victim’s Unit detectives said this was one of the most brutal attacks they’ve ever seen.
"He sees that she has just been brutally beaten,” Lieutenant Darin Ehrenrich with the Tulsa Police Special Victims Unit. “Her left eye is completely swollen shut. She is completely covered in blood. When he was asking her questions, she was having a difficult time talking because she was beaten so bad."
Even though the victim could barely talk, detectives said she told them she met a man named Kleiner Perez at QuikTrip near 11th and Garnett and they agreed to have sex.
They said Perez drove her to a park and she immediately knew something was wrong, so she tried to leave. She said Perez then beat her, strangled her and raped her.
“If they are going to unleash that level of violence on someone they don't know, that randomly, they are a danger to everyone else in society,” said Ehrenrich.
Detectives used surveillance video at the QuikTrip that showed Perez and the victim meeting, then leaving in his truck. Officers arrested Perez at his home days later.
Ehrenrich said sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes. He said victims who are engaging in prostitution or drug use are often scared to come forward.
"I don't know if she would have called police,” Ehrenrich said. “I can't stress enough, whatever has happened prior to a sexual assault, there's nothing that can happen that can justify a rape, sexual assault, or any crimes of that nature.”
Detectives strongly encourage anyone who is a victim of any type of sexual assault to report it to police.
