On Wednesday the Tulsa area moved into an elevated fire risk as winds increased and dry conditions are forecasted.
The last significant rainfall in Tulsa was in late September, and as the fall season moves in, dried out brush becomes something to keep an eye on.
According to the Tulsa Fire Department, calls to put out grass fires across the city are already coming in and firefighters want people to keep a few things in mind.
Fire officials want to remind people that it is illegal to have bonfires within the city and they encourage keeping grills clean and staying mindful of the embers left behind.
“If you are going to grill on your charcoal grill make sure those embers are out, put them in a metal can and stay with it keep an eye on it," said Andy Little from the Tulsa Fire Department. "You can’t just walk off and leave it because it will be windy, so that wind can push those embers into the grass and cause those fires."
Little says throwing cigarettes out the window is a large cause of the grass fires and wants people to keep possible fire dangers in mind this week.
