Frost and freeze advisories will remain for the next few hours across northeastern OK with a few spots below freezing and others hovering around the mid-30s. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s today with full sunshine and a return of southerly winds around 10 to 20 mph. Gusty south to southwest winds should prevail for Election day with sunshine and highs in the lower to mid-70s. The weather pattern for the week remains rather benign, yet one short wave trough will zip across the central plains states Wednesday bringing a few clouds and maybe a short-lived wind shift for a few hours across northern OK. The end of the workweek also looks pleasantly mild with morning lows mostly in the upper 40s and lower 50s and afternoon highs reaching the lower to mid-70s. The upper airflow will be changing later this week and setting the stage for a much stronger storm system nearing next late next weekend with increasing chances for showers and storms followed by another significant cool-down.

Highs Today

The southwest upper airflow returns later this week as a strong western U.S. trough develops by Friday to our west. As the weekend nears, pressure will fall quickly across the Lee of the Rockies and strong southerly winds will return Saturday with 15 to 30 mph winds likely. This will also bring a rather warm air mass into the state, with Saturday afternoon highs in the upper 70s. Low-level moisture is expected to return before the cold front moves into the area either Monday night or early Tuesday morning bringing increasing chances for showers and storms. The upper air system appears quite strong and could bring some strong storms near or east of the state but discrepancies in the data will keep the mentions of strong storms out of the forecast for this period. Much colder weather should follow this front into early next week.
