The newest memorial on the National Mall in Washington D.C. opened Wednesday, honoring the nation’s Native American veterans.
The memorial sits outside the National Museum of the American Indian near the Capitol.
Oklahoma congressmen Markwayne Mullin and Tom Cole, two of the five registered Native members of Congress, helped mark the opening.
"I want to thank all the veterans, I want to thank all the families who sacrifice so much to be there beside their loved ones while they're deployed and when they come back home because we know it doesn't stop there,” Mullin said.
"For all of you who are Native American warriors, God bless you,” Cole said. “Thank you for your service to our country. We're proud of you. The country's proud of you."
