The Tulsa Police Department partnered with the TPD Foundation is preparing for its annual Random Acts of Kindness week, and it needs the community’s help.
TPD Foundation’s Random Acts of Kindness initiative is a week near Christmas when officers hand out turkeys, hams, groceries, gift cards, and more to those who may be struggling during the holidays.
They do this by going to specific houses with families they know have fallen on hardship or sometimes even pull people over, but instead of a ticket, that person gets some sort of gift handed to them instead.
TPD Foundation’s Danny Mills said these officers ca not do this without the community’s help and they are asking for donations so they can help make someone’s day this Christmas. In 2019, they were able to raise $30,000 to help buy groceries, gifts and gift cards. Mills said they are hoping this year is just as successful.
“You should see the puzzled look when somebody gets pulled over and instead of getting a ticket or something it’s good news, they are receiving a gift card or dinner, and they’re on their way with a whole different outlook of the police department,” Mills says.
Any donation amount is accepted, but as an example, for $25, you can help give someone a tank of gas and for $50, you can put a full holiday meal on a family’s table.
