City leaders in Wagoner have said that they plan on moving forward with holiday celebrations this year, even as COVID-19 cases rise in the area.
The first event will be held this weekend with the start of the Winter Concert Series.
In the coming weeks, Wagoner will host a Christmas tree lighting event and its Christmas parade.
Kristen Mallett, with the Wagoner Area Chamber, said that everyone who attends the events is encouraged to wear masks and practice physical distancing. Mallett added that parade participants will have to stay on their floats this year instead of walking around and closely interacting with the crowds.
”I think that our kids, our families, we’ve all had a really rough year and we all just need some normalcy in our lives," said Mallett. "It’s ok to come out and enjoy yourself. Just be safe.”
According to Mallett, she believes that people can still celebrate the holidays in public while staying safe.
The Wagoner Christmas Concert Series begins on Saturday, November 21.
On Wednesday, November 25, the city of Wagoner will officially turn on its Christmas lights.
The Wagoner tree lighting event will take place on Friday, November 27.
The Wagoner Christmas Parade will be held on Thursday, December 3rd.
