A Claremore nonprofit has partnered with a local business to give free haircuts.

As families are struggling to pay rent let alone handle things like haircuts, two organizations said they hope this opportunity gives people one less thing to worry about.

There is power in something as simple as a haircut.

"Being a hairdresser, you touch more hearts than you do hair," said Hair We Go Owner Sheridan Long. "My whole testimony. Every bit and part of it can touch somebody out there that needs hope."

Sheridan has been in business for three months, but this day is not about making money. Instead, it’s about giving back. Hair We Go Mobile Salon reached out to Light of Hope Ministries in Claremore to offer two days of free haircuts to anyone who needs one.

"People need it. We are in a tumultuous time in our world right now and everyone is holding on to their finances tight and sometimes the last thing that we can spend money on is self-care because we are more worried about staying fed or housed or taking care of our other family members," said Layla Freeman with Light of Hope.

Kids have stopped by and so have adults.

"Just to let the mom get a haircut. She walked in in a state of mind. She walked out totally different," said Nancy Phelps with Light of Hope.

"This little boy was in the chair and he wanted a buzz! He wanted a buzz! And so, they started and he just squealed so loud, it was the best thing ever!" said Layla.

These organizations are hoping that a little kindness can bring some lightness into what is an incredibly stressful and heavy time for so many Green Country families.
