The City of McAlester approved a mask mandate at a city council meeting on Tuesday night.
According to the mandate, masks will now be required by the city in public spaces as well as stores and restaurants.
Anyone who is not in compliance can be asked to leave business and facilities and can be charged with trespassing.
Exceptions to the mandate include those that fall under CDC guidelines as well as people eating in restaurants or working out in gyms.
An emergency declaration was not approved at the meeting so the ordinance will not take effect for 30 days.
