THD: 42 Percent Of COVID-19 Hospitalizations Were Younger Adults Last Week

Hospitalizations are down for the last couple of weeks, but that's down from a record high.

Officials said in the first few weeks of January, one third of everyone hospitalized was between 18 and 35-years-old.

It upends the notion of serious Covid-19 cases just affecting old people.

The timeline indicates that hospitalizations stem from cases contracted around Christmas.

It usually takes a couple of weeks to progress to the point of needing hospital care.

Even with hospital numbers trending down, there are still twice as many people in Tulsa hospitals with Covid-19 as there were in November 2020.

Dr. Bruce Dart with the Tulsa Health Department said "it's really inaccurate to assume that only our seniors are being hospitalized due to Covid-19. Last week, 42% of all people hospitalized were those individuals under the age of 65."

But vaccinations are speeding up, with the Tulsa Health Department giving 1,300 doses at their one site on Wednesday.

So far, 41,000 doses have been delivered in Tulsa County.

The Health Department said they're ready to go faster, but they have to wait on greater supplies from the government.
