ODOT Continues To Treat Roads After Winter System Moves Out Of The State

The winter storm may have moved out of Oklahoma, but snow is still blanketing much of the state, which means some areas on highways could cause drivers trouble.

Most of the main highways and interstates have at least one lane cleared, but ODOT said some on and off-ramps may still be snow-packed.

ODOT said even though crews were prepared for the storm, it will still take a few days to get everything on the roads back to normal.

“We knew the type of storm it was, it was going to require a lot of plowing versus melting. As we saw temps fall being 20, it makes salt not be as effective, so plowing was our number one thing,” said Terri Angier with ODOT.

Officials tell News On 6 they had a 1,500 member team pivot from construction to snow duty.

Crews in eastern and central Oklahoma worked overnight into Thursday plowing and treating areas that still needed work.

Officials say drivers still need to keep an eye out for black ice. They suggest driving slower than normal, keeping extra space between cars and preparing for a longer drive time.

ODOT said it will begin assessing damage to highways after the snow melts.
