Update: A water tank is available at the Preston School bus barn to fill water containers.
Okmulgee County Rural Water District 2 in Preston has issued a voluntary and precautionary boil order for its residents.
The Department of Environmental Quality asked the RWD to issue a voluntary boil advisory as a precaution. Residents are advised to bring water to a boil for at least a minute before drinking or preparing food.
The district is experiencing water shortages due to controlled power outages earlier this week. The Rural Water District said that the city of Okmulgee, who is also the supplier to at least eight districts that include Mounds, Nuyaka, Morris, Schulter and Okemah, can’t keep up with the demand for water.
Officials said they are working steadily to restore the system to normal operations.
You can find more information on the boil advisory at the DEQ website here.
