Here’s a look at six things to know before you set your alarm for Thursday.
.COVID UPDATE: Tulsa officials will give an update on COVID-19 at noon. There will also be a commemoration of the lives lost over the past year.
.NEW OPPORTUNITIES: Tulsa Public Schools is hosting a news conference about spring, summer and fall expanded learning opportunities for students. That’s at 9:30 a.m.
.AMAZING TEACHER: The Oklahoma Teacher of the Year will be announced Thursday. The virtual ceremony will be streamed on the State Department of Education Facebook page starting at 10 a.m.
.STAR OF VALOR: An Oklahoma National Guardsman will receive the Star of Valor Thursday. Sergeant Pedro Gonzales was at a neighbor’s house when a burglar came through the door, grabbed a knife and started stabbing the 66-year-old woman. The sergeant put himself between her and the attacker so she could escape. He suffered serious wounds to his face and neck.
.NEW TULSANS: 60 new Tulsans representing 25 countries will naturalize Thursday at Admiral Twin Drive-in. It’s the second outdoor ceremony for the City of Tulsa. The soon-to-be U.S. citizens will sit in their cars and tune into the radio to hear the festivities.
.THURSDATE: Starting this Thursday, the Melting Pot is calling dibs on Thursday for date nights. With a four-course meal, rose petals and candles at the table, a ‘Thursdate’ might be for you.
