The Cherokee Nation has announced it has found a temporary home for its cultural collections and archives.
The collection will be housed at the Cherokee National Research Center set to open late this summer.
The items are the Nation's foremost collection of historic Cherokee-related documents and artifacts from the 1700 up to today.
Historically, the collection was housed at the Cherokee Heritage Center outside of Tahlequah. The items were declared in a state of emergency due to aging infrastructure and needed environmental controls for preservation.
The research center will be located at the Cherokee Springs Plaza in Tahlequah.
