Students at Owasso High School got the chance to learn more about serving in the Navy Wednesday. Students got a taste of what it takes to be in the Navy with a virtual reality experience that puts students right in the middle of the action.
Inside the Navy’s Nimitz virtual reality truck, students immersed themselves into the career of a Navy SPEC WARFARE Officer, rescuing Navy SEALS from enemy territory.
"A video game to the tenth power, it's really cool," said U.S. Navy Counselor First Class Natalie Brown.
She said it is part of educating the next generation and making sure these kids are aware of what the Navy has to offer.
“I have my recruiters out here today, we're here visiting at Owasso High School today and just letting all the students be aware that Navy is here to help," said Brown.
Besides learning about career options, students got details about a full-ride Navy ROTC scholarship worth $180,000 that could land students in some of the nation's best schools.
"OU is actually one of our schools, Vanderbilt is one of them, Notre Dame is one of them, so these are some really big top schools that the Navy ROTC has," Brown said.
9th grader Anna and her friend Nayana were there, trying their luck on the pull-up bar.
"I did a pullup and I did amazing, actually two pullups, and my arm is straining right now," said Nayana.
They say they learned a lot that they didn't know about before and enjoyed the virtual reality experience.
"It was really cool, and they had our hand on a handle and we could like make it go faster and like drive it. It was really fun," said Nayana.
"And she tried to wreck like four times," said Anna.
"It wouldn't let me wreck," said Nayana.
The Nimitz virtual reality truck will be at Tulsa's Memorial High School on Friday.
