A bill that would require permits for protesting at the Oklahoma Capitol is one step closer to becoming law.
Senate Bill 119 would require groups wanting to use the State Capitol grounds for demonstrations to apply for a permit 10 days before the event.
Demonstrators would then be required to give notice of their event at least 48 hours in advance. But if the event is open or advertised to public groups, a minimum 14-day notice ahead of the rally would be required..
The bill states that those who get a permit would be responsible for any damages to the property.
SB 119 would also require any group using Capitol grounds for a public event to get liability insurance.
So far, the bill has passed the Senate, and it passed a House committee on Wednesday.
The bill will now head to the house for a vote. If it passes there, Governor Stitt would still have to sign it before it becomes law.
