A Pryor woman who loves to give back to her town has created a community garden for anyone to come, visit, find a little peace in the craziness of life. She said this is her way of combining her love of the outdoors with her heart for doing something good.

"You need to just slow down. Notice the little things," said Pryor resident Cathy Webster.

Hit pause on your day for a minute.

"It is very important to me. It refreshes part of my soul- the sound of water," said Webster, "I grew up always having a garden, with a creek running through the property."

Take a break to slow down and notice the little things you might usually pass by too quickly.

"If they can run through the meadow of flowers, perfect. If they can watch the butterflies or I have some herbs there, I plant just for caterpillars," said Webster.

That is what this garden in Pryor is all about - the pause.

"I see people come with books, they will sit around and read a book and listen to nature, it is just for people of all ages," said Webster. "My biggest joy is when grandparents from anywhere bring their grandkids to the garden."

Webster has lived in Pryor almost 40 years.

"1998 was when I put in the Iris bed and I just added to it as I could each year and could afford to," said Webster.

She noticed people driving into the neighborhood to look at the woods by her home. Eventually, she bought the lot and started building a community garden out of her money, with her own time.

"It is good therapy," said Webster.

Over the years, the garden has grown into a sanctuary, not just for her, but for people passing through and for the community.

"People just come through really quickly, it is like, you missed so many things," said Webster. "There are trails over there so people can go through the yard and over the bridge and get to the trails."

This little slice of Colorado is an extension of Webster’s philosophy of life.

"Anywhere you are planted, you try and make it as best as you can for everybody else. Not just for you but for everybody," said Webster.
