Police Identify Suspect In NE OKC Deadly Double Shooting

Oklahoma City police identified a suspect allegedly involved in a double shooting that took the life of a woman last week. Police arrested 51-year-old Dennis Walker Senior recently on one first-degree murder complaint.

Police said a witness helped investigators connect Walker to the deadly shooting of 57-year-old Joyce Smith. Police have not said what the relationship was between Walker and the victim.

Police first came across Walker last Tuesday in the intersection of Northeast 36th and Kelley Avenue. An officer driving into work found Walker sitting in the driver seat of a blue Suburban, one of the windows was shot out.

“When he got out to see what was going on he found a person inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound,” said MSgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department.

Only moments later, police were called to Northeast 35th Street and Lindsay. They found another shooting victim in a van.

“When officers arrived over there, they found a critically injured female inside the vehicle,” said Knight. “She also had been shot.”

Investigators identified the victim last week. Police said Smith died at the hospital from a gunshot wound.

According to an arrest warrant, an eyewitness saw someone fire at the victim. The witness reported the driver was in an SUV that matched the one Walker was driving. Investigators found a gun in Walker's Suburban and casings that matched the ones found near the victim's van.

Walker was also shot and spent nearly a week in the hospital recovering, but police are still not sure who fired at him or why.

Walker has not been formally charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
