Cinco De Mayo Events Kick Off In Downtown Tulsa

On Wednesday, a group of bars in Tulsa's Blue Dome District will host a Cinco de Mayo street party open to the public. The event begins at noon on Wednesday and organizers say they expect the district to be full of people wanting to celebrate the holiday as things begin to return to normal.

Arnie’s Bar and Red’s Bar in the Blue Dome District have come together to host a street party with several food trucks, outdoor bars, and live music for Cinco de Mayo.

East 2nd Street is blocked off between South Detroit and South Elgin avenues to through traffic and will stay that way until the event clears out sometime Wednesday night.

The celebration has no cover charge or tickets and is open to all ages, but food and drink costs are up to the vendors themselves.

This is one of the first holidays since Mayor G.T. Bynum decided to lift the City of Tulsa’s mask mandate and other COVID-19 restrictions. Event organizers say there is plenty of space in their outdoor street venue for people to distance themselves from others and if people would like to wear a mask, they of course can, but it is not a requirement.

Arnie’s co-owner Jo Armstrong said it has been far too long since everyone came together, so this kind of social celebration is needed.

“We are really ready to get out there and enjoy some gorgeous weather, some tacos and margaritas with our friends, and really just try to get back to whatever our new normal is,” Armstrong said.

Tulsa's River West Festival Park has three days of family fun during the Cinco de Mayo Fest. The festivities kick off Friday afternoon and do not stop until late Sunday evening. At this Cinco de Mayo event, celebrate with plenty of live music, a 5k run, authentic Mexican food, arts & crafts, a huge selection of carnival rides and tons of activities for kids of all ages.
