The Tulsa Fire Department gives the all-clear to a Downtown Tulsa law firm after they received a strange package in the mail.
Investigators say employees thought the package was so odd, they ended up calling Hazmat. The package was sent to a law firm on the ninth floor of a building near Main and 4th Wednesday afternoon. Tulsa firefighters say the box had two blue masks inside but, they say what made the package so strange was that it was wet.
"Obviously that’s not a package they had anticipated receiving it is kind of unusual. They took precautions and called hazmat crews. Our crews entered the building and self-isolated those people into offices in case there was hazardous material," said Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department.
When crews showed up they blocked off the street with 5 Fire Trucks and Hazmat Trucks. Tulsa Fire says they isolated the employees who came in contact with the package, just as a precaution. Hazmat said nothing in the package was dangerous and they ended up throwing it away. Little with Tulsa Fire says Hazmat doesn't get a lot of calls for strange packages but when they do they are extra cautious
"Our hazmat team has three apparatus that often respond together. They need more manpower because they're not in a hurry we're not rushing them as you do to a fire. They're going to take their time and they're going to be careful because a lot of those materials have to be treated very delicately to make sure that people are not injured," Little explained.
Little says that the law firm did the right thing in this situation and urges people to call the professionals when they get near anything suspicious.
