Warming to near normal this afternoon.
Looks like another good day ahead for most of the area, even though we’ll track a very low chance for a pop-up shower this morning along the OK-KS state line and then again later this afternoon in a few spots. Morning lows in the lower 60s will climb into the mid-80s this afternoon with sunshine and south winds near 10 to 15 mph. This will be the first day in a while that we’ve been near or right at the seasonal averages for daytime highs. Low-level moisture will remain and should become slightly higher in scope this weekend into next week with humid to muggy weather. A weak, upper-level trough developing this morning across Texas should slowly drift northward this weekend into early next week bringing additional scattered showers and storms into the region. The upper flow will also remain weak and organized severe weather threats will remain low for the next 5 days. This pattern, however, may bring pockets of moderate to heavy downpours with the tropical environment entrenched across central and eastern Oklahoma.
The upper air flow is transitioning from the northwest to the south for this weekend. A mid-level ridge of high pressure will be positioned well west with the Texas upper low developing and moving north. Data this morning continues to indicate this feature will influence part of the state this weekend into early next week with scattered showers and storms. I have noticed a general trend in most data to push the higher precip outputs slightly east Sunday into Monday.
By the middle of next week, this trough is expected to move out of the region while the western ridge expands into at least western OK with toasty weather. This ridge may still allow a few showers or storms nearby for the middle to end of the week. There is also a signal in the data that a sharp northwest flow may redevelop by next weekend opening the window for a few of those typical June storm systems to enter the state. But in the meantime, enjoy the warmer and slightly humid weather today before we track additional scattered storms this weekend.
Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
