After a year of closures and cancellations because of COVID-19, the lights at the Miss Oklahoma Competition are now back on.
This week, 40 young women are competing at River Spirit Casino Resort to earn the title of Miss Oklahoma.
"Every girl dreams of being Miss Oklahoma," said Addison Price, Miss Oklahoma 2019, 2020.
Addison Price earned the crown two years ago and with no competition, last year has held the title of Miss Oklahoma since. As a state ambassador, she's traveled the Sooner state, meeting Oklahomans along the way.
"Never had I thought that I would have the opportunity to see every corner of Oklahoma and interact with so many Oklahomans,” said Price. “It's really taught me that we are a special and unique group of people."
On Saturday a new Miss Oklahoma will be crowned. This week, the 40 candidates are competing in preliminary rounds consisting of talent competitions, evening wear, red carpet, and on-stage interviews. The candidates will then be narrowed down to a final 10, with a final competition on Saturday night.
Price says whoever wins has a big responsibility ahead of her.
"A lot of the preparation comes from knowing what you want to do with the job, how when you become Miss Oklahoma what are you going to do with those 365 days,” said Price. “Really being able to make an impact on the state."
Tickets for each day are still available. Saturday’s winner will compete in Miss America later this year.
The 2021 winner will appear on Six in the Morning this coming Tuesday.
