Tulsa police say a hostage call at an apartment complex ended with officers breaking down a door to get the victim into safety early on Thursday morning.

According to police, the call went out around 12:30 a.m. from inside the Edenwood apartment complex near East Apache Street and North Peoria Avenue.

Police say the victim was inside an apartment that had a door with double locks and the suspect would not give up the keys.

Police describe the relationship between the suspect and victim as recent acquaintances.

Police told News On 6 that they decided to break the door down after about four hours of negotiation.

Lt. Paul Madden from the Tulsa Police Department said, "All of those efforts fell through and the decision was made, we would breach the front door and extract the victim, the victim performed beautifully for us, I positioned her next to the door, one of my officers breached the door and she basically jumped out the door into our arms."

Police say the suspect was not taken into custody because he is not a threat to anyone else, instead, a warrant for kidnapping will be issued for his arrest.
