Doctors say that data in Oklahoma shows you are 70x more likely to end up in the hospital with COVID-19 if you are unvaccinated.
That's one of many reasons the Oklahoma State Medical Association is encouraging vaccinations. The Association's president Dr. Mary Clark made a plea on Tuesday with hesitant Oklahomans to get the shot. She says the latest data shows that 16 out of 100,000 vaccinated Oklahomans end up in the hospital.
Meanwhile, 1,116 out of 100,000 unvaccinated Oklahomans end up hospitalized. Clark says unvaccinated Oklahomans are also 68 times more likely to die from the virus. She says they're seeing more vaccinated Oklahomans test positive with the delta variant, but most of the time, their symptoms are mild.
"It is absolutely obvious that the unvaccinated people are the ones that are being hospitalized and are dying at much higher numbers,” said Clark. “We can talk 90 percent, 95 percent, 97 percent, it doesn't matter in the long run."
A little more than 1,400 Oklahomans are in the hospital with COVID-19 across the state.
