EMSA said the high temperatures have caused more than 300 heat-related calls already this year, more than all of last year.

They said being in this heat too long without water can be incredibly dangerous.

So far this year, of the over 300 heat related calls, 180 people have been so sick that they had to go to the hospital.

EMSA said staying hydrated is the most important thing you can do, but try to stay away from alcohol or coffee, since both can dehydrate you.

"I always tell people if you're trying to catch up on hydration while you're outside, it's a losing battle," EMSA's Adam Paluka said.

If you work outside, EMSA said to make sure you take constant shade breaks and have light, loose fitting clothes.

If you are feeling sick from the heat and sweating a lot, they said it's likely heat exhaustion and you should lie down in the shade and get cool water.

If you are not sweating, it is heatstroke, and you should call 911 immediately.

Paluka said the two groups who are most at risk of getting heat-related illnesses are young children and the elderly.
