On Thursday, the Jenks Public Schools Board is expected to vote on a temporary mask mandate for the district. JPS is the latest Green Country district planning on discussing a mask mandate as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in younger age groups.
Thursday night at 5 p.m. the JPS board is expected to discuss the temporary mask mandate that would apply to all students, teachers, and visitors while indoors at any school within the district. The agenda item says an opt-out can be given for any medical, religious, or strong personal reasons if necessary.
The meeting comes as an Oklahoma County judge overruled senate bill 658. This means all school districts in the state can implement a mask requirement if they choose.
There will be time at the beginning of the meeting open for public comments on the mask topic.
The board members are expected to vote on the requirement on Thursday night, but there is not a date mentioned on when the mandate would be implemented.
