We can talk about quarterbacks and running backs and receivers all day long, but without the help of the linemen, none of it would be possible.
While one Union lineman might not be in the spotlight, he is making a difference on the field.
Doing whatever is necessary to help your team win is everything Union Head Coach Kirk Fridich hopes for out of his players. One Union offensive lineman epitomizes that and more.
"Nate’s a couple-year starter for us and really proud of Nate. Played guard last year but we transitioned him into the center spot during the preseason and just love the way he plays the game," said Fridich.
Lineman never make the highlights unless it’s for the wrong reasons, but seeing his team find the endzone is enough celebration for center Nate Marshall.
"I used to play on defense and used to love getting my name called, but they needed me on the line, so you just get used to it, you learn to accept it. They putting numbers on the board so can't get mad at that," said Marshall.
"The key to the offense is the guy who touches the ball first, so without a doubt, Nate as a lineman gets the ball every play,” said Fridrich.
Fridrich said he’s exactly the kind of guy he wants in the trenches.
"He keeps his mouth shut and comes to work. It’s a typical lineman, he plays that position with a little bit of edge to him, and you love that about guys. He’s got that team-first attitude," said Fridrich
