A puppy born with upside down paws that has had corrective surgery, is now heading to a permanent home after her final checkup appointment.

Siggi was born in Texas, then spent time in Stillwater for her life-changing surgery and appointments. Now she is moving one state further north to Kansas, where a woman adopted her.

At her final checkup before going to her new home, Siggi got a close inspection of her paws, elbows, kneecaps and shoulders from OSU's Dr. Erik Clary.

"Just following Siggi's progress, she's been a lot more comfortable on the right side than she has her left side," Dr. Clary said.

With Roxanne Wooden's husband and grandson in the room, they watched as she held the rat terrier for the first time.

"Oh God, beyond ecstatic! I have waited forever,” Wooden said.

Wooden started following Siggi's story weeks before OSU performed the surgery, because a dog rescue group out of Dallas was posting about Siggi online.

"I was literally petting her picture before now. I saved every picture, every video, everything,” Wooden said.

Roxanne felt she needed Siggi in her life, after she said her dog, Chester, who also had deformed feet, died earlier this year.

"She died of cancer,” Wooden said. “And then I saw her, and it was just like the same eyes, the same ears, the same look, the same thing with her feet and it was just like it was meant to be,” she said. "I mean I've been empty. And I have four other dogs, but it's the special needs, her needing me more than the others do."

For the first eight months of Siggi's life, the Dallas rescue group cared for her.

"That's our job. Our job is to find them their forever. We're only a stepping stone,” Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab Reform President Patti Dawson said.

After the final checkup, it was time to load up the car and head to Kansas, because "there's no place like home."

Dr. Clary said it is possible Siggi could need another surgery as she gets older.
