With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to shop for costumes.
Spotlite Magic & Costumes is a family-owned business open year-round in Tulsa. Spotlite Owner Sacheen Platten says customers start shopping for costumes in August all the way up until Halloween night.
Regardless, costume shoppers make this the busiest time of year. Sacheen and her husband Mike have owned Spotlite for more than two decades. From a hamburger to a knight in shining armor, you can find a little bit of everything here.
She says dinosaurs, superheroes, and unicorns are trending costumes for kids this year with inflatable T-Rex costumes being a popular item for both kids and adults. Sacheen says all around, customers are interested in scary costumes. She's seeing a lot of people buying werewolf costumes, witch costumes, and Purge masks.
She says her store isn't affected by the nationwide shipping problems, so there's plenty to choose from. That’s because they order inventory in January since they're open year-round.
"We have more employees scheduled, we're open longer hours, we know that people wait until the last minute. You know, sometimes we have them coming in at 7 p.m. on Halloween night getting their kids dressed in the store,” Sacheen said.
"We're seeing an increase. People are just wanting to decorate more, their houses, they're buying props and decor, and then they're wanting to dress up more. They're having more parties,” she said.
After Halloween, Sacheen says they'll put the props away and bring out Christmas clothes like Santa suits.
Spotlite Magic & Costumes is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Next week, they’re open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Halloween night.
