The Tulsa Police Department confirmed that two people died after a hostage situation at a Tulsa apartment complex on Saturday afternoon.

Police say that a 28-year-old female died and that the suspect was shot and killed by officers at the Seminole Apartments near E Virgin St. and N Utica Ave. Two children were able to escape from captivity.

Police say the suspect called police at 1 p.m. on Saturday and when they arrived on the scene, he was acting strange.

Once officers approached the suspects' apartment, the older child escaped with a phone cord around their neck and told officers that their hands were tied up. The child also told officers that the woman and another child were bound up inside as well.

Police say the suspect ended up pushing the woman down the stairs and at some point, officers shot and killed the suspect.

The children were taken to safety and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
