The city of Tulsa is about to get a lot busier next summer. On Tuesday, USA Volleyball announced it has selected Tulsa to hold the 2022 All-Star Championship.
This is the latest event for what's expected to be a busy summer in Tulsa. Other events set to happen include the PGA Championship, the Ironman Triathlon, and the state FFA Convention. However, the volleyball tournament will happen in July, not May like these other three events.
The 2022 All-Star Championship is set to happen July 19-23 at the Cox Business Convention Center.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Jamie Davis with USA Volleyball said the event will be broken into two parts. The first includes a training event for Team USA, while the second is the 5-day tournament. About 200 junior teams from across the country will compete with about 20 to 25 courts set up to hold daily matches.
Keep in mind this event is not for professionals, but Davis said some of the athletes may go on to play in the Olympics. Instead, the event is for up-and-coming athletes from different clubs associated with USA Volleyball.
The 5-day event is expected to bring in about $8.5 million and 8,000 people.
