The Tulsa Health Department is expected to start giving COVID-19 vaccines to children between the ages of 5 and 11 starting next week. The FDA and CDC issued emergency use authorization this week for the Pfizer vaccine to be administered.
The first doses of the pediatric Pfizer vaccines are expected to arrive sometime next week. The CDC recommends children in the newly approved age group get the vaccine to help protect against the virus.
The vaccine will be given in a two-dose series taken three weeks apart. The dose for children is one-third of the one administered to adults and teenagers.
More than 300 places, including local pharmacies and doctors’ offices, will begin to offer the vaccine to children once the shipment arrives.
When available, appointments in Tulsa can be made at vaccinate918.com. Flu shots and other recommended childhood vaccines can also be administered during COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
