Broken Arrow police said situations like the one that happened early Saturday morning take not only a physical toll on officers but also an emotional one.

Officers said this body cam video from Saturday is hard to watch but it's the hard reality.

"This tape just proves you don't know what you're stopping every time you stop a vehicle," said Officer Chris Walker. "Every street officer has been in a similar situation where you're stuck trying to stop a vehicle and find out what's inside."

The video shows Officer Caleb Sherman following a car into a neighborhood near 30th and Kenosha and attempting a traffic stop. Police said after Sherman got out of his vehicle, two people ran from the car, and 31-year-old Cory Batt drove off.

"Your hands get sweaty even watching something like this," said Officer Chris Walker.

Sherman gets back in his car and begins chasing after Batt. Batt drives through a dead-end street and crashes on Kenosha before running from his vehicle and into some woods.

Police said Batt shoots at Sherman who then fires back. Police said Batt shot Sherman in the leg and also hit a home. Sherman stumbles to take cover behind his car. Other officers arrive within minutes to help and provide medical aid.

"Just seeing the guys work together that well is amazing," said Officer Chris Walker. "It could've been way worse. I mean it's still bad. It's amazing to see all the agencies work together in such a short time span. It's hard to operate a police department without an outside agency's assistance. You know we lean on other departments as they lean on us. And it's good to have a good working relationship like that."

Police believe Batt shot and killed himself after the shootout. Officer Sherman has been released from the hospital and will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Police said the US Marshals arrested one of the passengers, Jason Maple in Tulsa this afternoon for unrelated warrants. The other passenger was interviewed by police and has been released.
