Pryor Veteran Donates Warm Winter Clothing To Local Shelters

A Pryor veteran said his simple mission to get coats for a few homeless people has turned into something much bigger than he could have ever imagined.

He's received hundreds of hats, coats and socks for kids and adults.

News on 6 was there when he made his deliveries to local shelters.

Kenny Littlefield filled up his whole truck and a trailer with boxes of all kinds of winter clothes.

"I started this journey, I was thinking 100 coats," said Kenny.

Kenny is an Army veteran and was inspired to help homeless veterans. He started asking for coat donations in Pryor, set up drop-off spots, and a local dry cleaner's even offered to clean the clothes for free.

"It just exploded," Kenny said. "I made over 300 coats from a little bitty town of Pryor."

Kenny's first stop was the John 3:16 mission in downtown Tulsa.

"If all you have is what's on your back, a coat can make a difference when you're living or not living," said Rev. Steve Whitaker, the mission CEO. "And when we have killer cold, it makes a difference."

Reverend Steve Whitaker said they're constantly full and this clothing helps tremendously, along with donated meals, and volunteering.

"People are hungry, they are hurting, they lost everything," Whitaker said.

Kenny also dropped clothes by the Tulsa Day Center.

"We appreciate your service and for helping us out," the director Mack Haltom told Kenny.

"We have veterans coming here seeking support," said Noe Rodriguez.

Associate director Noe Rodriguez said about 200 people visit their clothing room each week.

"Coats and hoodies are a big need for us," Rodriguez said.

Kenny hopes his small gesture will inspire others to give, and he said he'll keep collecting items all winter and next year too.

"If we can help our homeless now to stay warm this winter," said Kenny, look what we had last winter."
