A Skiatook family has a warning for others after catching a person stealing a package from their front porch on camera. Police are offering some tips for people ordering Christmas presents to prevent this situation from happening again.
Shonna Stewart and her family have lived in Skiatook for the last couple of years and never imagined this would happen to them. She was shocked to see a thief get away with part of a Christmas present for her kids in just seconds.
Stewart says she frequently orders from Amazon and the package had just been delivered hours earlier when nobody was home. The doorbell camera catches someone in a hoodie and bandana running on the porch, stealing the package and taking off.
Stewart says they are now stepping up security at their home and has strong words for whoever stole from them.
"I do hope that you have a Merry Christmas, I'm sorry that you felt you had to steal to get something that you needed," said Stewart. "I hope that you have a little bit of conviction in your heart that you know it's not right to take from others."
Police say it's a good idea to schedule deliveries for a time when someone can pick it up for you, have your carrier hold a package in a locker or pickup location or ship your package to a workplace.
Video doorbells and motion lights also come in handy so you know when your package is delivered.
Skiatook Police say there are no current widespread reports of porch pirates in town. They are investigating the incident.
