An 81-year-old man is going to be okay after a GRDA police officer saved the man who was trapped under a UTV.
The officer used his patrol car to rescue the victim.
Lieutenant Jeremy Cantrell says he was in the right place at the right time and he's glad the man is going to be okay.
"He was blue in the face, didn't appear to be moving," Cantrell said.
Lieutenant Jeremy Cantrell says he knew he had to pull over Tuesday when he saw a man trapped under a UTV and another man trying to push it off of him.
"I could tell by the subject he didn't have long left, so it was just my first instinct to get it off as fast as we could," he said.
Cantrell says he knew he had to act fast.
"I guess 20 years of law enforcement your instinct and your training kind of kick in, it ran through my mind to put the wench on it and wrenching it off but I knew we didn't have enough time," he said.
His car pushed the UTV until it was off the man's chest and onto his legs, and then Cantrell and two other men were able to push it off him completely.
The man was taken to the hospital and has five broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Cantrell says it's just part of the job, but he's thankful he was exactly where he needed to be.
"It's truly just part of the job, I'm glad I was there, I'm glad he was able to survive it, I'm sure anybody would do the same thing, nothing special that I did was just at the right place at the right time," he said.
The man is still in the hospital but his family says he should be released in the next few days.
