With flu cases rising, the Oklahoma Caring Van is helping fight the spread by giving out free flu shots to the community.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health says there have been more than 230 flu hospitalizations statewide, so the Oklahoma Caring Van is reaching out to make sure the most vulnerable are protected.

Health experts say 55 of those hospitalizations are in Tulsa County.

The caring van says they have nine mobile units ready to go and are expecting to give out nearlyF 9,000 flu shots.

Fernando Guillen with the Oklahoma Caring Van says since kids are more vulnerable, he is encouraging anyone six months and older to get the shot.

He says with COVID mixing with the flu, it's best to get the best protection this flu season.

"We don't want something extra, on top of what we have with the pandemic, taking us out of our jobs...our routine lives because we didn't get the flu shot," Guillen said.

The Caring Van will make a stop at The Salvation Army today on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

For a full schedule of the clinics, you can find it on the Oklahoma Caring Van Foundation's website or Facebook page.
