Owasso Community Honors Former Police Chaplain Who Died After Battle With COVID-19

A former chaplain for Owasso police has passed away. He's one of several people in the department to die from COVID-19.

Daniel Holly became a chaplain to serve others and was working toward becoming a pastor. He was only 42 years old when COVID took his life. Daniel Holly's second home was his church-where he spent all his time serving others.

"He just poured his life into others, with simple words, deeds," said Pastor Scott Pevehouse.

Pastor Scott Pevehouse at South Lakewood Baptist Church said Daniel was very involved at church. He started new programs and would often fill in to preach when Pastor Scott was gone.

"Everything that was about Daniel was reaching out," said Pevehouse.

Daniel's sister Jeanna Crawford said even as a kid, Daniel always had a servant's heart.

"He was always looking out for everybody else, not just himself," said Crawford.

Daniel had heart issues and had to get surgeries as young as four days old. Jeanna said he was a fighter. He wanted to be a police officer but couldn't because of those health reasons, so he decided to become a chaplain for Owasso police and help officers in need.

"He realized he could serve our guys in blue by serving them personally," she said.

Jeanna said Daniel loved movies and superheroes. He was an instructor at KinderCare and was a kid at heart.

"Daniel lived life the way he was supposed to live it."

Jeanna said Daniel was a family man and had a special way of encouraging others. She said losing him so suddenly has left everyone in shock.

"When your life's message is still ministry after you're gone, you did it right," Crawford said.

"Daniel home going to heaven has left a hole here at South Lakewood," Pevehouse said.

Daniel is the fourth person in the Owasso police family to die from COVID in the past several months. Owasso police said he leaves a lasting memory.
