OSU Medical students spent the morning at Eugene Field Elementary School inspiring kids to become doctors and nurses.
Their fun twist on the lesson was to use teddy bears to teach the kids!
"To be here as a woman and show other girls what all is possible. I think if I would have been able to see early on it would have instilled this is what I want to do," said Alexis Spence, OSU Med Student.
The kindergarten through second graders are doctors for one day thanks to the OSU Med students.
"There is nothing quite like seeing young minds put on a white coat like that," said Spence.
"I think if they can see it or have someone briefly talk to them about it - I think it plants a seed of what might be possible, and possibility is the key here," said Principal Angela Callahan, Eugene Field Elementary School.
Students are given teddy bear patients. They walk around the room to different stations, checking their bears temperature, getting x-rays, and eventually taking a picture in a white coat with a student doctor certificate of completion.
"Most of my children are Title 1 so they qualify for free and reduced lunches and programs, which means the family's average income level is below the poverty line," said Callahan.
Principal Angela Callahan believes experiences like this teach students that anything is possible.
"Education provides options and choices. It broadens thinking, it casts visions it, creates dreams," said Callahan, "It is just an honor to serve in this capacity for this group of human beings."
