Flower shops are blooming with business for Valentine’s Day and florists are putting the petal to the metal.
One flower shop owner said her store already had 100 orders before the day even started.
Coming in every color of the rainbow and all shapes and sizes, flowers are a Valentine's Day staple.
At Stems in Utica Square, Manager Meredith Hawksworth said they started early Monday morning and will stay busy until the evening.
The flowers are stored in a freezer kept at 38 degrees.
"We come in, start preparing items for the cooler for people to come in and purchase. They'll just walk in and find whatever it is that they're wanting,” Hawksworth said.
She said since last week, the shop's received more than 100 orders for delivery and pick-up.
But she says preparations start well in advance and they hired extra staff members to work the big weekend.
"We've hired extra drivers, we rent an extra design center,” Hawksworth said.
She says florists put together plenty of extra arrangements for customers who come into the store.
This year, red roses are especially popular.
"The dozens have really been popular this year, which we have lots of roses. So, we're happy that's what people have been gravitating towards,” Hawksworth said.
Hawksworth says you can give flowers on any occasion for any reason, it doesn't have to be romantic.
"It's a happy thing. Like you like seeing people wanting to get something to show their whether it's appreciation, whether it's love, friendship,” Hawksworth said. "You get to be a part of that and it's really nice."
