A Tulsa man is in jail, accused of stabbing another man and killing his dog near 51st and Lewis.

Both men were walking their dogs, when Freddie Hanson stabbed the other man and his dog, according to police.

Tulsa Police said the victim wasn't looking for trouble and never expected this to happen.

"It's very unusual for somebody to not only let their dog loose but then attack them, and not only attack them but try to stab them," said Officer Andre Baul.

Police said they received calls from drivers who saw two people with dogs fighting.

The victim told police he was walking his pit bull when he came across 61-year-old Freddie Hanson, who was also walking a pit bull in the opposite direction.

The victim said he told Hanson to keep his dog away, because he didn't want any trouble.

Police said that's when Hanson unleashed his pit bull, who bit the victim and began attacking the victim's dog.

"They're pets to us, they're family members but they still are dogs and they're gonna go by their instinct," said Officer Baul.

The victim told police he was stabbed in the arm by Hanson while trying to separate the dogs.

The victim said Hanson then began gutting the victim's dog.

"It's troubling," said Baul.

Police found Hanson nearby with the knife.

Hanson told police he thought the victim had a gun, but police said that was not the case.

"Not everybody has the same intentions and not everybody has the same heart as you do when you're out their walking your dog," said Baul.

Officers arrested Hanson and animal control took his dog.

Baul said the victim's dog died.

"He just lost his dog for absolutely no reason," said Baul.

Court records show Hanson served time in prison in the early 80's for forgery, grand larceny and rape convictions in Tulsa County before his release in 1999.
