Winter weather is moving into Green Country and it could mean dangerously cold temperatures and the threat for ice.

Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:

The strong cold front is moving across the area Tuesday morning bringing colder and blustery weather. There will be a narrow zone drizzle directly behind the surface boundary early Tuesday morning as it moves southeast but shouldn’t last long. Strong north winds will commence from 20 to 30 mph with temps dropping from the 60s into the teens and 20s across northern OK and 30s across southeastern OK. Wind chills will drop into the single digits and teens. By afternoon, temps will rebound with afternoon highs in the lower 30s north and near 40 across far southern sections. A second surge of shallow, arctic air arrives tonight dropping temps into the 20s and teens overnight and early Wednesday morning. The majority of northeast Oklahoma will stay below freezing from later Tuesday night through Saturday midday.

Tuesday Temps & Rain Chances

The first wave of our wintry weather develops Wednesday to the southwest and moves into the area midday to early afternoon with freezing rain and sleet. This wave will exit the area late Wednesday afternoon. The second wave nears the region pre-dawn Thursday and exits the area Thursday midday. The prominent model continues to be sleet north and some freezing rain south, but a small area of the sleet-to-snow mix seems possible across extreme northern OK and southern Kansas. Total accumulations of wintry mix (ice and sleet)will be around 1 inch to 1.5 inches with higher icing totals across southeastern to east-central OK. Travel impacts are likely. A winter storm watch remains in effect for most of Eastern OK Wednesday and Thursday.

Ice Accumulation

A surface ridge of high pressure arrives Friday with improving weather. Another fast wave is possible Saturday, but higher chances currently appear south of the metro. There will be a window for sub-freezing temps early Saturday morning before moving into the lower to mid-40s by afternoon. Sunday features lows in the 20s and highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Sleet Forecast

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
