Temperatures warm up this week after a round of winter weather moved through the state.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
Gusty winds, increasing clouds and highs in the lower to mid-60s will be likely today before a few storms develop across southeastern OK on Monday night. A warming trend continues this week.
The next strong upper-level system drops across the four corners area and into the southern plains later Monday night. This causes a surface area of low pressure to rapidly develop later Monday night along the red river and track eastward. Scattered showers and storms will be likely along and ahead of this feature, but most data support higher chances for thunderstorms across southeastern Oklahoma and north Texas later Monday night. A few of the storms could be strong to severe. We’ll keep a low mention for a few thunderstorms near the Tulsa metro later in the night, but our chances remain at 30% or less.
After the system quickly exits the area early Tuesday morning, another robust warming trend is likely. Tuesday and Wednesday feature temperatures well above the seasonal average, including daytime highs Wednesday in the upper 70s. Gusty South winds return on Wednesday helping to increase low-level moisture ahead of the next strong upper-level storm system. This system is expected to impact our area Thursday evening with increasing thunderstorm chances.
Differences in the position of the surface low, along with some other model differences, will bring low confidence at this point to severe weather threats. But the overall pattern does suggest the potential for strong and severe thunderstorm chances with this next system Thursday evening. As the storm system exits the area early Friday morning, dry and pleasant weather is likely to persist through the weekend before our next system arrives early next week.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog. Have a super great day!
