The pilot of a Tulsa F-16 fighter jet assigned to Ellington Field south of Houston is ok after crashing in Louisiana Wednesday afternoon, authorities close to the investigation confirmed.

The pilot was Major Alexander Drummond, the son Gentner Drummond who is running for election for Attorney General of Oklahoma this June.

“As a parent, the first thing I wanted to know when I received the news of the crash was, of course – is he OK? I’m relieved to know that Alexander is alive, receiving outstanding medical care and is expected to make a full recovery." said Gentner Drummond in a statement to the media. “The Air Force pilot in me wants all the details of exactly what happened, but it’s way too early for that. What I know at this point is that during a training run over Louisiana, Alexander had to ditch his F-16 in an empty Beauregard Parish field, sparing any injuries on the ground."

According to Lt. Col. Legler with the National Guard, the F-16 was taking part in a routine alert mission when, for unknown reasons, the pilot had to eject as the plane crashed to the ground.

The National Guard said the pilot has no serious injuries, was able to walk away from the scene and no one on the ground was injured.

The plane was supposed to return to Ellington Field after training. It is unclear if the aircraft was armed during the crash.

In 2017, a Tulsa F-16 jet pilot had to eject during a training flight after the aircraft caught fire during takeoff.

This is a developing story, stay tuned for updates.
