Tulsa's flag will be seen all over the country in a few months now that a license plate design with the flag on it has gotten the green light. The designer of this Tulsa flag plate started this process almost five years ago. It had to pass through the state legislature and will soon be on the back of cars.

The simple plate took years of planning and Preston Power was committed to seeing it through. “I think it's going to look great on the back of people's cars," Power said.

He started the process before the Tulsa flag was even made official. He joined forced with state representative Carol Bush to get it approved through the legislature and then he connected with city councilor Phil Lakin to help back the project.

“Preston and Representative Bush brought the idea to Tulsa Community Foundation," said Lakin. "They needed a nonprofit sponsor.”

Lakin is the CEO of Tulsa Community Foundation that helps nearly 2,000 donors getting their money to causes that make a difference. “We would be a very different city if we weren't so generous," Lakin said.

In November, Power needed to get 100 pre-orders for the plates. He said that may seem easy but it’s tedious. It was hard to get people to print, fill out and mail the forms to the state. But he made that goal, and it was before the April 30 deadline!

“We just hit our 100th application. This is a done deal," Power said. "The plate will be happening.”

Lakin and Power said Tulsa’s pride will be seen across the country now and they hope people get in on the excitement. “Really proud of what's here," Lakin said. "Blue, red and gold looks great on anybody's car.”

They're still accepting pre orders for the plates which will be $15. Find more information here: https://tulsacf.org/flagplate/
