The honeymoon period for a first-time homeowner in Moore is cut short. The family said they haven't lived there a month and now don't feel safe in their own beds.

Tuesday night a loud noise scared the Lamey family's 15-year-old daughter; but the next morning is when they finally connected all the dots.

"We just moved in here and we just bought our first house. We're a military family we've moved around a lot, so we've never had that opportunity," said Megan Lamey.

That nightmare had a slow burn, as Megan's daughter sat and watched TV on her bed and suddenly heard a noise.

"We went and looked and there was nothing. Nothing had fallen or anything. We had just moved in, so we still have boxes and stuff, so she maybe thought something fell over."

The Lamey's didn't think anything of the sound and tucked in for the night. Then, the next day the 15-year-old looked out her window.

"She was like mom I think I figured out what that bang was. I really think you just need to come and see for yourself," said Megan. "I'm pretty sure it was a gunshot and instantly I was like what?! What?!"

Megan followed the path that went inches above the bed. They noticed the bullet grazed the stuffed duck that lay not too far from where her daughter sat on the bed. The fluff still clung to what Moore PD said is a 9MM sized hole.

"That could have hit my kid. That's what I kept thinking. That could have hit my kid. She was laying up against her headboard so if she would have been laying out flat it probably would have hit my child."

The family now struggles to find peace of mind.

"My kids didn't really want to sleep in their beds even last night my 7-year-old sin was like mom I'm scared. And I'm like do you want to sleep with mommy, and he was like yes please," said Megan. She added, "really and truly we're just hoping nothing happens again and this was just a weird one-time situation."

Moore PD said they have an open investigation to find who pulled the trigger but didn't want to comment.
