Catoosa Police Department held the second active shooter training on Tuesday.
Catoosa Police Chief Ronnie Benight said the purpose of the training is to help give community members the tools they need to protect themselves.
Police said a shooting can happen anywhere. In the event of an active shooting, one can use the principal run, hide, fight.
“Run if you will always be your best option to get away from the situation. If you can’t run hide to the best of your ability, try to find a safe place, and stay there until the incident has passed. As the last resort, if it comes down to it fight,” Chief Benight said.
Chief Benight said dozens of people have shown up and have come prepared to learn.
Don Clemons attended the training and he said he understands a shooting can happen anywhere at any time, so he came to the class to learn how to defend himself and others.
“What I am expecting to learn today is how to possibly protect myself, family members, and friends if we are out in public and actually approached or in a situation where there is an active shooter,” Clemons said.
There will be one more training session held at the community center on August 31 at 6:30 p.m.
