You can get a taste of a different country without going very far this weekend.
The 42nd annual Scotfest kicks off on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Broken Arrow Events Complex celebrating Scottish and Irish roots.
Vendors from around the country are setting up shop for the festival bringing Celtic culture to Broken Arrow.
Live music will transport you across the world with bands performing Celtic rock to traditional folk.
Around 40 vendors will be selling items like crafts and clothing to food and drinks.
Phil McNeff's business is based in Arizona, but he travels the country each year to festivals like this one.
"I tell these guys they should write a book on how to put on a show. It was dying 15 to 20 years ago, and they came along and revived it and have done a fantastic job since then,” McNeff said.
He sells things like swords, knives, and Scottish apparel.
One-hundred fifty athletes will compete in the Highland Games including hammer and weight throwing and the caber toss. There's also a kids’ area with rides.
"Any show, the most enjoyable part is meeting the people and getting to know a little bit more about my roots as we go. Mainly the relationships, seeing the joy of people visiting our booth,” McNeff said.
Organizers said for this year's event, tickets and bars are cashless.
Shuttles will pick people up from NSU, several hotels, and River Spirit Casino.
The event runs Friday evening through Sunday.
